High-chromium ferritic stainless steel 446 has a chromium content of 23–27%, very little carbon (≤0.20%), and trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and molybdenum. With a tensile strength of roughly 485 MPa and a yield strength of roughly 275 MPa, SS 446 is well-known for its exceptional resistance to oxidation and sulfidation at high temperatures. It is appropriate for extended high-temperature use due to its strong creep resistance and stability under thermal stress. It works dependably in heat-intensive industrial applications, but its limited toughness makes it unsuitable for cryogenic environments.

Industries that work in corrosive environments and at high temperatures frequently use stainless steel 446 round bars and rods. They are frequently used to fabricate radiant heating systems, boiler baffles, heat exchangers, furnace parts, and incinerator components. They are perfect for the thermal processing, cement, and petrochemical industries due to their high resistance to oxidation and sulfidation. They are also employed in chemical reactors, kiln linings, and exhaust systems where resistance to heat and chemicals is crucial. In demanding industrial settings, SS 446 is a preferred option for structural and functional components due to its performance and durability.
