Stainless Steel 440C is a martensitic, high-carbon steel that has 1.0–1.2% carbon, 16–18% chromium, and trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and molybdenum. After heat treatment, it reaches remarkable hardness (up to 60 HRC). Tensile strength is between 760 and 1320 MPa, yield strength is about 450 MPa, and elongation is between 12 and 14%. Particularly when hardened and tempered, 440C offers exceptional resistance to wear, abrasion, and moderate corrosion. It performs exceptionally well in applications needing strength and edge retention, despite not being as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades.

Applications requiring high hardness, wear resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance are best suited for stainless steel 440C hollow bars. They are extensively utilised in industrial tooling, surgical instruments, valves, knife blades, and bearing assemblies. They are used in hardened bushings, cam rollers, and precision shafts in the automotive and aerospace industries. Weight reduction and enhanced performance in rotating parts are made possible by the hollow form. These bars are also used in mould inserts, mechanical seals, and pump parts where dimensional stability and resistance to deformation under stress are essential. They are appropriate for severe-service environments due to their sturdy characteristics.
We provide products that come with both mill test certificates and third-party test certificates, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
