Stainless Steel 420 is a martensitic stainless steel with 0.15–0.40% carbon and 12–14% chromium. After heat treatment, it provides exceptional hardness and tensile strength (up to 700–850 MPa). In non-aggressive conditions, the alloy shows moderate corrosion resistance and is magnetic. Additionally, it has fair ductility and good fatigue strength, both of which get better with tempering. Because it strikes a good balance between hardness and mechanical durability, SS 420 can be machined and formed into high-performance, wear-resistant rectangular bar profiles, even though it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades.
