The typical composition of stainless steel 317L bars and rods is low carbon (maximum 0.03%), 11–15% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, and 18–20% chromium. Its resistance to corrosion is improved by this composition, particularly against formic, acetic, and sulphuric acids.
