Stainless Steel 303 Bars and Rods contain Cr (17–19%) and Ni (8–10%) as major constituents and have Sulfur (0.15% min) added to enhance machinability. Other constituents are Manganese, Silicon, Phosphorus, and regulated Carbon content (up to 0.15%). The material possesses high machining properties with good corrosion resistance and strength. It generally has tensile strength of about 500–750 MPa, yield strength of 190–345 MPa, and elongation of about 35%. Though welding and heat treatment are not appropriate, SS 303 is perfect where there is a lot of machining involved without diluting the durability or finish.
