High Speed Steel M42 Bars are cobalt-rich tool steels that contain about 1.10% carbon, 3.75–4.50% chromium, 9.00–10.00% molybdenum, 1.15% vanadium, and 7.75–8.75% cobalt, with the remainder being iron. This specific blend gives them remarkable red hardness, wear resistance, and edge retention. After heat treatment, M42 bars achieve a high hardness of 66–70 HRC and boast a tensile strength of around 1200–1400 MPa. They are well-known for maintaining cutting efficiency even at elevated temperatures, combining toughness and abrasion resistance, which makes them perfect for heavy-duty, high-speed machining and forming applications.
