With a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction, quality assurance, and timely delivery, Neil Metals proudly serves both Indian and international markets with dependable and efficient aluminium forging solutions.
Aluminium 2017 is a heat-treatable alloy mainly made up of copper (3.5–4.5%), silicon (0.2–0.8%), magnesium (0.4–1.0%), and manganese (0.4–1.0%), with the rest being aluminum and trace elements like iron, zinc, and titanium. It boasts a tensile strength ranging from 370–480 MPa, yield strength of 250–390 MPa, and elongation between 10–15%, depending on the temper. This alloy is known for its excellent machinability and good fatigue resistance, although it does have lower corrosion resistance compared to other aluminium grades, making it ideal for precisely engineered, high-strength forged parts.

Aluminum 2017 is suitable for forging but has limited high-temperature resistance. For high-temperature forging applications, consider alloys with better heat resistance, like 2219 or 2618.
The workability of Aluminum 2017, being moderate, affects forging by requiring precise temperature control (400–480°C) to prevent cracking and achieve proper plastic deformation, making it suitable for intricate shapes with care.
Aluminum 2017 offers high strength, excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and ease of welding, making it ideal for custom forgings in aerospace, military, and high-performance applications.
Aluminium 2017 forgings find extensive use in applications that demand high strength and good machinability. In the aerospace sector, they are perfect for aircraft fittings, structural components, and parts that endure high loads. The automotive industry utilizes them in engine components, gears, and suspension systems due to their durability. In marine and defense applications, they are employed in equipment that requires both precision and mechanical strength. The industrial machinery sector also benefits from 2017 forgings in tools, fixtures, and fasteners. While Aluminium 2017 may be less resistant to corrosion, it remains a popular choice for applications that prioritize strength, toughness, and excellent machining characteristics.
We provide products that come with both mill test certificates and third-party test certificates, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
