AISI 4140 is a chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel with a general composition of 0.38–0.43% carbon, 0.75–1.00% chromium, 0.15–0.25% molybdenum, and 0.75–1.00% manganese. This alloy provides a perfect blend of strength, toughness, and wear resistance. Some of the mechanical properties in the heat-treated (normalized and tempered) condition are tensile strength of 655–1080 MPa, yield strength of 415–930 MPa, and elongation of 20–25%. AISI 4140 Bars and Rods undergo good heat treatment (annealing, quenching, and tempering) and machining.
